The Queen's New Castle

They say that home is where the heart is. I'm not quite sure at this point where my heart even is. It feels like it is somewhere in the past, but I know that I can't live there. I knew I had to move forward. I think the worst part of everything is how alone I felt. My future was uncertain, and I didn't even have a job to support myself. I was living off of the little bit of money that I had left after I bought the new house.

My neighbor came over to introduce herself. It turns out that she is the county prosecutor. That made me feel a little safer. I have lived in the country my entire life, except when I lived in the suburbs when I was a child. Even then it was a deadend lane that was in a rural setting by a farm. Living in the city was an entirely different lifestyle than I was use to. If I sat on the front porch all of the neighbors could see me, as well as the traffic that came down the reasonably busy street. There was an alley on the left side of the house too. So if I sat in the backyard, everyone could see me that drove down the alley. I decided to put up a privacy fence in the backyard, which I had to go into debt for. Luckily my credit was good. The fence also made me feel like my dog was safer.

Since it was October, and Halloween was coming soon, I had to go to the store and buy some candy. I couldn't afford to, but I did anyway. My first Halloween in the new house was interesting. There were hundreds of Trick-Or-Treaters that stopped by. I really enjoyed seeing all of the kids dressed up, and I had a lot of fun passing out candy.

I knew that I needed to make some friends in this new community. If I didn't have an actual family, then I would create a family of friends. So I joined some local groups like the historical society and the art association. I needed to do some things that were actually interests that I had.

After the first of the year in 2019 I applied for all kinds of jobs online. There weren't many that didn't require a lot of driving, or driving during the dark. I saw that there was an opening at the courthouse for a court reporter, so I asked my neighbor if she would put in a good word for me. She said that she would. I ended up getting the job. I hated this job! It was awful! It was sitting behind a computer all day and entering data, then going into the courtroom when there was a court case to take notes and record. The job didn't pay enough either. I was going to have to find something else that suited me better.

One of the jobs that I applied for was a marketing consultant at a radio station. I knew I had what it takes to do the job because I had 20+ years on network marketing experience, and I had owned my own successful business that I built from the ground up.  I went to the interview with every intention of getting the job. I could do that and also no network marketing. In the interview I told them how my skills could benefit them. It wasn't about how badly I needed a job. And guess what? I ended up getting the job! That was in August of 2019.

Lesson Learned: No matter how bad the situation seems, if you have faith in God, you have some skills, and you have a little self confidence, nothing is impossible! I also learned that my dad was right! Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet!
