It's Alright To Be Little Bitty

Our "Little Man" was home, and we were so happy. Was it coincidence or a sign from above that the Alan Jackson song "It's Alright to Be Little Bitty" was at the top of the music charts right then? It's also kind of ironic how a man who didn't want another child could become so attached and so obsessed with a baby! My husband seemed overjoyed to have our "Little Man" now. Why, oh why couldn't he have acted that way through my pregnancy. It would have made everything so much better, and so much easier for everyone concerned.
My husband was so obsessed with his new son that when he was home, it was as if he didn't even want to share him with me, his own mother. He rocked him, changed diapers, fed him, and even bathed him at times. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Our "Little Man" had a terrible issue with Colic for about the first six months. I hate to say it, but I was glad when my husband came home from work and took over for a while.
When my mom and dad came over, they had the same reaction. My dad was especially fond of his new "Little Man". Without fail, every Friday evening, Grandpa would bring Grandma over. He would sit on the living room couch and play for hours with his "Little Man".
While we were going through so much with our "Little Man" and his early birth, my mother in law was put in a nursing home. She needed more care now than anyone in the family was able to provide. We took our "Little Man" to see her as much as possible. He always made her smile. It was so amazing, even when he was at his worst with Colic, and no one could console him; we could hand him to her, and he was immediately at peace and would stop crying. This happened more than once too. Finally I asked "How in the world do you do that?" She said, "Honey, I've have 15 children and plenty of practice." Then she would just smile.
Our "Little Man" brought so much joy into the lives of everyone he touched. He made life seem so much sweeter, and so much more joyful and fun. None of us would have traded this special time watching grow and teaching him new things for anything else in the world.
Lesson Learned: It's alright to be little bitty!
