Life Raising Our Son On the Farm
As our "Little Man" grew to be a toddler, he was the center of our world. It was amazing how much his dad thought of him now, especially for a man who didn't want him to begin with. This little guy was the sweetest! I loved showing him new things, helping him do things, and just playing. He put back the joy in my life that had been missing for so long.
"Little Man" had a laugh that was totally contagious, and a smile that even the grumpiest of people couldn't help smile back at! He was my pride and joy. People were always giving him free things too. Everywhere we went, stores, festivals, flea markets, yard sales, it didn't matter. It was a good thing we had a big house to put all of his treasures in. My husband and I also loved spoiling him. He had his own bedroom with an adjoining play room, and so many toys that 10 children couldn't have played with them all.
My favorite time was when I would read him bedtime stories after he got his "Bednight Snack", which is what he called it. He would lay there all wide-eyed and I could see the wheels in his head just spinning. He was so imaginative.
Holidays were a lot more fun for my husband and I too. I loved making my "Little Man" special Halloween costumes so that we could take him out and show him off to the world. My favorite was when he was the Pillsbury Dough Boy. I just couldn't stop poking his big belly and making him laugh. He was always so kind and polite to the people when he would Trick or Treat. He never forgot to say thank you. I would tell him to go ask his daddy if he wanted a cup of coffee, and he would say, "Daddy, Mommy wants to know if you want a 'couple of coffee'?" I think the memories of my "Little Man" from baby until he went to school are some of my best memories.
When "Little Man" got into school, all the girls in kindergarten swooned over him. One 4th of July we went to a local firemen's festival. There were lots of children there that he went to school with. "Little Man" was running and playing, mostly with the girls. When the fireworks started, he came over and flopped down on the blanket on the ground. A little blonde haired girl flopped down on one side of him, and a little red headed girl flopped down on the other side. Boy did his daddy get a smile on his face then, and said, "That's my boy!"
"Little Man" loved playing with cars and farm equipment. He had tractors and skid loaders, and barns, and farm animals and mini hay bales, you name it, he had it! His Grandpa loved coming over and playing farm with him every single Friday night. It was the highlight of his week as well as "Little Man's. His daddy didn't play with him like that, and I always thought that was sad.
"Little Man" loved everything about the farm. The machinery, the cows, the horses, growing pumpkins, and growing a garden. He was our little helper. This made his Grandpa very happy too, especially since he was an old farm boy himself.
Lesson Learned: My "Little Man" could bring so much happiness to everyone around him!
